WOW: In Iceland, A Hand-Drawn Map As An Address Gets Successfully Delivered

WOW: In Iceland, A Hand-Drawn Map As An Address Gets Successfully Delivered

You might have heard about messages in bottles. They tend to travel thousands of miles and sometimes arrive on a beach decades after they were posted. But this story is a little different. A letter was delivered to a small remote place in Iceland. But instead of an address, the letter had a hand-drawn map.

And it was actually processed by the mail system and delivered to the correct address.

Rebecca Cathrine Kaadu Ostenfeld was shocked when she received a letter. It was delivered to the horse farm where she lives with her husband and three children near Búðardalur in the west of Iceland.

But unlike a postal address, the sender had just drawn a map of where they thought the farm to be with the following, in English:

Country: Iceland.
City: Búðardalur.
Name: A horse farm with an Icelandic/Danish couple and three kids and a lot of sheep!

The sender had also added: “the Danish woman works in a supermarket in Búðardalur.”

According to a local Icelandic news service, the letter was mailed by a tourist in Reykjavík who had visited the farm, owned by the Holar family.

And, it actually arrived at the right place.

The story was posted on Reddit in 2017 and it has gone viral since then. This particular region in Iceland is quite remote and the village of Búðardalur is home to just 270 people.
