The renowned Turkish architecture firm Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio recently wowed us with their newest project, Sarcostyle Tower. This twisting tower is a 210-meter conceptual skyscraper. We hope to see it as an addition to the beautiful New York City skyline very soon.

The twisting tower or Sarcostyle Tower is most certainly an unusual project. The inspiration from biology is a relatively common practice in architecture and is known as Biomimicry. It is the creation of materials, architecture, products, and conceptual ideas.
Another very common example of humans utilizing real biological process is airplanes! They took inspiration from birds.
The exquisite renderings of this playful twisting tower get their name from the term sarcomeres. It is actually a complicated unit of striated muscle tissues in our bodies. It is fascinating to see how the connecting bridges in the central void are designed to mimic the same.

The twisting tower’s design is beautifully inspired by muscle fibers under tension. How refreshing!
