While most of us have wondered about life on Mars, an architecture firm has already planned a self-sufficient and sustainable city on Mars. So, if you dream of being a Martian then ABIBOO Studios plans on fulfilling them.
The firm has released a conceptual plan for five cities that can be built on Mars. One of them will be a capital city called Nüwa. The city is scheduled to be constructed and completed by 2100.

Each city can house 250,000 people. So, in total, they can house one million humans! How amazing does that sound?
ABIBOO collaborated with SONet to make this project. The idea was to create such structures that could protect humans from radiation, meteorites, and maintain the atmospheric pressure difference between the inside and the outside of the buildings.

ABIBOO studied Mars and decided to choose the cliffside of the planet to build its own dream vertical city. The design and construction systems were planned, keeping in mind the harsh conditions on the planet.
“If we were to construct the buildings as on earth, the buildings would tend to explode from the pressure,” said Alfredo Muñoz, founder of ABIBOO. ‘The solar and gamma radiation on Mars forced us to build spaces that are not directly exposed to the sky.’

The firm even gave a thought on how they can be self-sustainable.
“For being self-sustainable, a settlement on Mars needs to be able to obtain all resources locally. After a short initial phase relying on capital investments and supplies from Earth, the system should be able to sustain its growth with local resources only.“

ABIBOO has also designed workspaces, parks, and agricultural modules that are optimized with CO2 environments. The team plans that humans on Mars will soon be sustainable!
