Tammy Waddell died after a long battle with cancer. She was an elementary teacher in Forsyth County Schools for around 30 years.
In her final weeks, this dedicated teacher had one final request that she made to her students. The teacher asked them to bring backpacks filled with school supplies to her funeral in the form of donations for children in need instead of flowers in her honor. What a thoughtful deed.
A spokesman for the funeral home, Paul Holbrook, told CNN:
“That day we received roughly about 130 backpacks filled with school supplies — anything a student would need for at least half of the school year — and they continue to come in.”
Her son, Kevin Waddell had something to say as well:
“Part of what I loved about my mom was the passion she had as a teacher. It’s one of the inspirations that led me to the profession. She lived life by loving others and she was never worried about attention … she was just focused on the love.”
After a long fight, the compassionate heart of Tammy Waddell has definitely left a lasting mark on us and the entire humanity. This selfless act will forever be remembered. Her students sure must’ve been lucky to have her as a teacher. This restores our faith in humanity. May her soul rest in peace.
