In May 2016 the largest salt flats in the world––the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia was flooded with water. The thin layer of water covering the salt effectively made the salt flat into ‘The World’s Largest Mirror’ reflecting the sky. Russian photographer Daniel Kordan traveled to the Salar de Uyuni and captured some awesome photos of the Milky Way and its reflection on the salt flats.
Kordan had to plan a month-long road trip to observe the stars and shoot astrophotography. He used a Nikon D810A astrophotography DSLR and a 14-24mm f/2.8 Nikon lens to capture this stunning view.
You can catch the stunning views of the sky meeting the earth on these vast salt plains from December till March. The place being 12,300 feet above sea level, becomes an absolute dark sky at night. This favored Kordan’s amazing photography of the Milky Way. The high elevation meant that he needed at least five days to accustom to the change.
Kordan describes this place as “space on Earth.”
