We have heard about blue rice, blue moons but blue dunes? NASA has released a stunning image of Mars. This stunning image shows blue dunes on the red planet.
The U.S. space agency released a beautiful photo titled, “Blue Dunes on the Red Planet.”
According to NASA, the dunes surround Mars’ northern polar cap and were created by gusts of wind. This image was taken by an infrared camera of the Mars Odyssey orbiter, called the Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS).
This picture is a combination of images taken from December 2002 to November 2004. NASA released this picture to mark the 20th anniversary of Odyssey, the longest-working Mars spacecraft in history.
If you look closely, there are two types of dines in this image. The yellow one signifies warmer climates whereas the blue one denotes colder climates.
“In this false-color image, areas with cooler temperatures are recorded in bluer tints, while warmer features are depicted in yellows and oranges. Thus, the dark, sun-warmed dunes glow with a golden color. This image covers an area 19 miles (30 kilometers) wide,” NASA said.
