Workers in companies across the world are bound by a strict work schedule, but a minute or two of delay is often ignored. But recently, a Japanese government imposed a rather strict outcome of leaving office early.
The Funabashi City Board of Education in Chiba Prefecture announced that it had disciplined a few of its staff members for leaving the office two minutes early.
The office apparently found out that in the 316 instances of early departures, many employees had written a false time in their card so they could leave work early.
The report added that one 59-year-old employee, an assistant section chief at the Lifelong Learning Department, was taking the lead on helping other employees leave work early. As a punishment, she was handed a one-tenth deduction in salary for three months.
According to the Board of Education, when asked why they had knocked off before their assigned finishing time, staff said they wanted to go home early. If they missed the bus at 5:17, the next bus wouldn’t arrive until 30 minutes later, at 5:47 p.m.
People in Japan expressed sympathy for the workers but it hasn’t changed any views.
What are your thoughts on this action taken by Japanese Government?
