Winter can be a harsh time for the homeless. Most of us can’t imagine sleeping outside during winter, never mind during a pandemic. In Germany, there are around 860,000 people living on the streets. And that’s why, a company called Ulmer Nest in the city of Ulm has created sleeping pods.

As it can be dangerous to be outside, these sleeping pods are perfect for those who can’t go to traditional shelter places. The nest not only allows the homeless to get some sleep but it also stays warm. And it can fit up to two people and can also be locked, ensuring full safety.

The cozy sleeping pod can protect them against the cold, wind, and humidity while also promising fresh air circulation and hopefully reducing the number of cold-related deaths.

To ensure privacy, there are no cameras in the pods. But it does have a motion sensor that will alert social workers who check the pod following its use to ensure that it can be cleaned. They also to provide assistance to anyone using the unique form of accommodation.
