Here’s the almost original endless video.

It is safe to say that Nyan Cat, was arguably 2011’s hottest most coolest cat meme. Well, it’s now back in the news this week after the sale of a digital recreation of the artwork for 300 ether. At the time of its sale, it was just under $600,000. Nope, we’re not kidding.

How did this happen? Well, we’d like to welcome you to the wild world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). These are unique authenticated digital items that are being sold for thousands of dollars. Artists sell them via digital marketplaces like Rarible and Foundation. Nyan Cat’s creator sold his latest iteration of the iconic cat on the latter.

If you didn’t know, let us enlighten you with the fact that people are minting money by selling all kinds of NFTs. For example, the “E. Honda gif” that co-host of the CoinTalk podcast, Jay Caspian Kang recently sold, went for a handsome $500 in ether.

It sounds bizarre, but yes, someone did pay the equivalent of $500 in order to prove, that they own the “original” GIF of a Street Fighter character slapping an ass.

The world is a funny place. The internet even funnier and well…surprising for the lack of a better word.
