Do you like cereal? What we’re about to tell you could change the way you look at this food item. The US Customs and Border Protection said they discovered 44 pounds of “cocaine-coated” corn flakes.
According to a news release from the US Customs and Border Protection, the agency’s K9, Bico, alerted the officers about the shipment on Feb. 13. It was on its way to a private residence in Hong Kong from Peru.
“When officers opened the box to take a closer look, they saw that the cereal contained white powder, and the flakes were coated with a grayish substance. Officers tested the flakes and powder and found they contained cocaine,” the release said.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Bico, a narcotic detector dog uncovered the haul of drugs.

The value of the cocaine was estimated at $2.8m.

Richard Gillespie, Cincinnati port director, said in a press statement: “The men and women at the Port of Cincinnati are committed to stopping the flow of dangerous drugs, and they continue to use their training, intuition, and strategic skills to prevent these kinds of illegitimate shipments from reaching the public.”
People over the years have found innovative and creative ways to smuggle drugs. While frosted cereal flake is an ingenious idea but it is not entirely unusual. Others include under a wig, in a pair of fake buttocks, inside hollowed-out pineapples, and many more!
